Farewells are always difficult. This journal has been kind and happy, and so much more than just a journal. And I will miss it but I’m finally ready for something new.

So say hello to my new space: KIMBERLYKRISTENWONG.COM

Art Stage 2012

Posted in 2012, Art, Events, Photography, singapore by Kimberly Kristen Wong on February 25, 2012

Art Stage: entry, an exorbitant $33 well spent (and then another $100++ on coffee table books) drifting from installation to installation, wandering around exchanging the occasional smile with kindred strangers, content with nothing but the still silence of my thoughts for company. I once read that art is like a good friend- always comforting, always inspiring. I could certainly do with more days like that.

Inspiration, please find me again soon. Love, always x

TATSUYA

Posted in 2011, Daren, Events, Food, Photography, singapore by Kimberly Kristen Wong on November 24, 2011

Tatsuya to celebrate with the boy. We wanted to eat everything on the menu, so we went for 1 x chef omakase and then more à la carte than we could finish.

In these last week+ leading up to the trunk show, finding the time to blog is a rare luxury! I’m so tired with these 9amto4pm days, let’s just let the melt-in-your-mouth-sashimi & mouth-watering pictures do the talking, shall we?

& melon that, literally, bursts in your mouth. ’twas a good meal indeed x

EVEN IF YOU WIN THE RAT RACE, YOU’RE STILL A RAT

Posted in 2011, Art, Events, fashion, Photography, singapore by Kimberly Kristen Wong on November 11, 2011

I might have mentioned before, we recently showcased at the Red Dot Design Museum – and these are just a few pictures of some of our favourite things that day. I especially love the last two pictures together – oh, the irony! goMAAD featured live silk-screening, audience-participation sketching sessions, some really cool indie bands and a beer bar smack in the museum. More pictures and details at the Bloodbuzz Blog xx

A Candyland Wedding

Posted in 2011, Events, Family, Love, singapore by Kimberly Kristen Wong on October 12, 2011

(Outfit – Chiffon Dress, Topshop Love  / Sheer Cardigan, Vintage / Bag, Chanel / Accessories, Hermès & Aspial Lee Hwa / Watch, Franck Muller )

My eldest cousin got married two weeks ago – it was a lovely wedding all around. You know how at some weddings, the groom looks tense and the bride looks flustered and there’s a nervous energy all around and everything has to be spick speck perfect? This was nothing like that at all.

In it’s place was a showering of God’s blessings, photo-taking, candy-eating, song-singing and laughter all around. But best of all, the bride and groom held hands, and had huge smiles plastered on their faces throughout. They’ve been together for awhile now, and I love them together. Just so happy and confident in each other. I like to think these are the kind of marriages that last a lifetime. Here’s to many blessed blissful years ahead!

YSL Fall/Winter 2011-2012

Posted in 2011, Events, fashion, Shopping, singapore by Kimberly Kristen Wong on September 28, 2011

This past weekend was a busy one, but a good one. Apart from the excitement of the “F1 weekend”, I was also invited to an exclusive preview of Yves Saint Laurent’s F/W collection, where I fell head over heels for a gorgeous tweed cape-coat (pictured above) and realized how this season’s colour palettes are a direct reflection of my personal favourites. Thank you, Constance, for being such a lovely host!

Formula 1 Paddock Club

Posted in 2011, Events, Food, Lifestyle, singapore by Kimberly Kristen Wong on September 28, 2011

Osetra Caviar & Lemon Gelee with Creme Fraiche

Tuna Tartar, Ginger Dressing & Horse Radish

Roasted Beef Tenderloin, Miso Butter

Red Snapper, Potato Puree & Black Bean Vinaigrette

The world of Jean-Georges was pretty amazing – other items on the menu I tried&LOVED include fresh crab bruchetta, lobster with white truffle butter and the salmon tartar crostini. But my absolute favourite was the black truffle & fontina pizza – I had 3!

No (good) photos of the race itself- unfortunately, I didn’t bring the DSLR and was too lazy to fiddle with the shutter speed settings on my S95!

This year, I think the paddock club outdid itself. The entire set-up was really pretty! Chinois themed: the entrance looked like a casino-hotel in Macau, pretty oriental lanterns hanging everywhere, calligraphy artists showcasing their art, a long row of macbooks & bar stools…. There was even a scattering of crepe stands serving a variety of savory & sweets – chocolate raspberry & peking duck!

The Singapore Spirit

Posted in 2011, Daren, Events, Festive, Photography, singapore, Tan Family by Kimberly Kristen Wong on August 10, 2011

For the life of me, I couldn’t find anything red to wear. And I stood out like a sore thumb in the wonderfully patriotic sea of red. I did wear my Dior gold&ivory ring – it has stars bursting out which look very similar to the “5 stars arising”.

The last time I attended NDP was 4 years ago. D & I had just started dating, and I went down to watch him march for the Commandos in the Guard-of-Honour contingent. As I watched the commandos represent again today, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride for my boy. For the “Honour and Glory” he often speaks so fondly of. Cheesy, but “My boyfriend, our army” indeed.

I loved the three years + I spent in London, but even then, for me, the lyrics of Kit Chan’s “Home” always rang true – “There’s a place that will stay within me / wherever I may choose to go / I will always recall the city / Know every street and shore / This is home surely / as my senses tell me / this is where I won’t be alone / for this is where I know it’s home”

I don’t want to get into the ugly politics of it today. But whatever the naysayers say, I’ll always wear my Singaporean pride on my sleeves. We may not be perfect, but this sunny little island will always be home, will always be MY Singapore.

P/s- is it just me, or does anyone else think that the older NDP songs are much better than the newer ones? You know, songs like: Home, Stand up for Singapore & One people, one nation, one Singapore etc?

SKY ON 57 DINING

Posted in 2011, D5000, Daren, Events, Festive, Happy, Lifestyle by Kimberly Kristen Wong on July 7, 2011

Just a quick post before I head off to bed, work has driven me tired to the very last bone. This past week has been crazy busy and the pile of things I have to finish is really never ending. Every time I manage to solve a problem, another obstacle pops up. That being said, no complains – few things in life have been as fulfilling. Thank you, my someone up there for blessing me with Your strength & guidance!

D planned a romantic dinner for us at Sky on 57– he chose the restaurant because we previously read a review about it in August Men Magazine.

Head chef Justin Quek, is arguably the most well renowned chef in Singapore. Some achievements to his name: founder of Les Amis Singapore, ex personal chef of the French embassy and first ever recipient of World Gourmet Summit Awards Of Excellence.

Overall, I rather enjoyed the experience. Sky on 57 is a classy restaurant that fortunately, does not come off as over-the-top snooty, giving off instead, vibes of casual, unpretentious elegance. I should mention, however, that there IS a minimum spending. Food wise, the quality reflects the prices. And while the Steak, Lobster and Black Cod were good, the ONE DISH that really BLEW MY MIND was JQ’s signature Foie Gras Xiao Long Bao! BLOWS PARADISE DYNASTY RIGHT OUT OF THE BALL PARK. Not that it was ever impressive to begin with, but seriously, no comparison AT ALL. One bite of JQ’s Foie Gras Xiao Long Bao and it’s like an explosion of bliss on my taste buds!

Of course, part of what made the experience so awesome was the wicked view & the tireless company of my darling boy! P/S- Awesome birthday balloons were bought for me by the Awesome pals! :)
