Farewells are always difficult. This journal has been kind and happy, and so much more than just a journal. And I will miss it but I’m finally ready for something new.

So say hello to my new space: KIMBERLYKRISTENWONG.COM

(Photo of us at Lake District, England)

1649 days. That’s 2,374,560 minutes – and in this time, I cannot begin to count the number of times you’ve made me cry, but of this I’m sure: every single day you make me laugh. And for that, I Love You and I hope I’ll want to love you till my heart stops (or till you put a restraining order on me, whichever comes first!)

Happy Everyday-Is-Valentines-Day, my love x

Bistro Petit Salut

It would seem it’s physically impossible for me to go two posts without updating with pictures of food. Or for me to lose any weight, but that’s a different story altogether, I suppose.

This weekend, we caught The National live at the Esplanade, and can I just say, when Matt Berninger dived into the sea of people, the crowd hit fever pitch, and I could have just died happy in my seat. And that last song, acapella? BLEW. MY. MIND.

“We are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams”

(Outfit – White Tee & Denim Shorts, Topshop / Suspenders, American Apparel / Panda Chain, Korea / Le Pliage Tote, Longchamp /  Sunnies, H&M )

A glimpse into a perfectly sunny day we spent in a park in Seoul – I squealed over the panda chain, you quickly bought it for me. We spent the day riding bicycles, making wind-charm-wishes atop a hill, befriending Korean strangers flying beautiful traditional dragon kites. I kept losing balance, but we never gave up – riding and riding and then finally stopping by the seaside. We held hands, basking in the sunshine, breathing in the salty air, happy to just be in the moment. We are the makers of music, we are the dreamers of dreams.

The Pursuit of Happiness

Posted in 2011, Art, Happy, Korea, Personal, Photography, Travel by Kimberly Kristen Wong on September 25, 2011

“The difficulty for a writer…is that it seems to be a law of language that happiness, like goodness, is almost impossible to describe, while conflict, like evil, is all too easy to depict.” – W. H. Auden

“Are you happy?”  If I’m completely, brutally honest with myself, my answer to that question: Why yes, sir. Quite possibly, more happy, than I’ve ever been.

On some level, we’re always on a pursuit of happiness. But sometimes I think we’re almost afraid of happiness. Afraid of the fall that inevitably comes after happiness. Maybe sometimes, we just need to scream our lungs out, fly a kite and let it all go with the wind.

From London, To Singapore

Posted in 2011, cafe, Food, Friends, Happy, London, Nostalgia, singapore by Kimberly Kristen Wong on September 20, 2011

Jessie was in town over the weekend – a short stopover in Singapore on her way to Koh Samui – and it was so good to see her again after a whole year! We brought her for some local grub (famous chicken rice) and then settled into a chill afternoon at P.S. Cafe.

Over truffle fries & banana butterscotch, we filled each other in on the 12 months of absence – as it turns out: Jessie moved from London back to LA (her hometown) to Taiwan, and just recently moved in with her boo in Hong Kong- little miss jet setter. And Junny’s outdone herself (and us both, as usual) with her feature on Tatler’s Young Achievers. High time to up my game, get my act together.

Everything’s changed, but everyone’s still the same. Or maybe, everyone’s changed, but nothing’s different – just like old times. It was an amazing feeling, sitting with my girls, fondly remembering those 3 years of cold winter days, long morning classes, crazy nights out and Red Velvet cupcakes in the park. Till we’re together again, all my love xx

사랑해 sarang-hae-yo I LOVE YOU

Posted in 2011, Daren, Happy, Love, Personal, Travel by Kimberly Kristen Wong on August 25, 2011

It’s been a month since I boarded a flight home and left a piece of my heart in Korea. This particular photo was the first in a series of 700 trigger-happy-holiday-shots eternalizing 8 days of pure bliss. A teaser photo, and if I may, one that holds a special feeling in my heart.

A quick story behind it: Twas the night before the trip, and I was frantically throwing mismatched separates into my luggage whilst simultaneously complaining that the KRW conversion rate completely boggled boggles my mind. Yes, I own multitasking like that. And so he quietly took a sheet of A4, cut it up neatly, and painstakingly did the dollar to dollar conversion for my shopping convenience. (I ended up asking him everytime I wanted to buy something anyway, but) it’s thoughtful little things like that, that makes me smile, and I’m lucky to have him. ♥

Cake on a Rainy Afternoon

Posted in 2011, Art, cafe, Food, Friends, Happy, Lifestyle, singapore by Kimberly Kristen Wong on July 18, 2011

A rainy afternoon spent having heart to hearts with one of my favouritest persons on earth and nibbling on delectable little cakes. I’ve tried them all, almost. My favourites? Tiramisu and Emily, a heavenly champagne mousse with a gooey raspberry filling.

The mere three hours set us back a good couple a quid- you’d think it was the cakes, but really, the truth is, I can never walk into cute little bric-à-brac stores and come out empty handed.

It’s hard to imagine a more perfect way of escaping from the pitter-patter of the rain and the hustle-bustle of the outside world, even if only for awhile.

SKY ON 57 DINING

Posted in 2011, D5000, Daren, Events, Festive, Happy, Lifestyle by Kimberly Kristen Wong on July 7, 2011

Just a quick post before I head off to bed, work has driven me tired to the very last bone. This past week has been crazy busy and the pile of things I have to finish is really never ending. Every time I manage to solve a problem, another obstacle pops up. That being said, no complains – few things in life have been as fulfilling. Thank you, my someone up there for blessing me with Your strength & guidance!

D planned a romantic dinner for us at Sky on 57– he chose the restaurant because we previously read a review about it in August Men Magazine.

Head chef Justin Quek, is arguably the most well renowned chef in Singapore. Some achievements to his name: founder of Les Amis Singapore, ex personal chef of the French embassy and first ever recipient of World Gourmet Summit Awards Of Excellence.

Overall, I rather enjoyed the experience. Sky on 57 is a classy restaurant that fortunately, does not come off as over-the-top snooty, giving off instead, vibes of casual, unpretentious elegance. I should mention, however, that there IS a minimum spending. Food wise, the quality reflects the prices. And while the Steak, Lobster and Black Cod were good, the ONE DISH that really BLEW MY MIND was JQ’s signature Foie Gras Xiao Long Bao! BLOWS PARADISE DYNASTY RIGHT OUT OF THE BALL PARK. Not that it was ever impressive to begin with, but seriously, no comparison AT ALL. One bite of JQ’s Foie Gras Xiao Long Bao and it’s like an explosion of bliss on my taste buds!

Of course, part of what made the experience so awesome was the wicked view & the tireless company of my darling boy! P/S- Awesome birthday balloons were bought for me by the Awesome pals! :)

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS SINGAPORE

Posted in 2011, Daren, Festive, Friends, Happy, singapore by Kimberly Kristen Wong on June 30, 2011

One Sunday morning, I was kidnapped out of bed, blindfolded in the car and driven to a mysterious destination in the pouring thunderstorm. It turned out that D + our awesome pals had planned us a day at Universal Studios Singapore!

The only setback – it was pouring. Since they had already pre bought tickets + express passes, we couldn’t quite change our plans, deciding instead to wander around the gift stores first. Personally, I found the gift stores rather disappointing- not half as much fun as the ones in Uni Studios Florida or Disneyland etc!

After an hour of tiptoe-ing around under umbrellas, we found ourselves completely drenched all the same, and decided to declare it a wet day! We ditched the umbrellas, jumped into puddles and ran around in the rain. And that’s when the fun really started :)

As it turns out, I’m the biggest chicken in the group, but after much persuasion, I finally agreed to go on the Battlestar Galactica. By our 6th time, I actually requested to sit in front, and I ACTUALLY had my eyes OPEN! YAY ME! My favourite ride though, was the Jurassic Park wet float ride :) And we ended the day with Brazilian Churrascaria to feed our growling tummies- we were seriously hungry, for the first half hour, we just ate without conversation!

Not many photos because, well it was wet and we were too busy running around + screaming our lungs out. Thanks D + awesome pals, I ♥ you all!
